Erasmus+ Training Course on the use of game-based learning held in Kolín, Czech Republic
04/01/2025 – 12/01/2025 Kolín, Czech Republic

At the end of February, the town of Kolín, Czechia, became a meeting point for creative minds from across Europe, all gathered for the Erasmus+ training course Break Out Box: Social Entrepreneurship Edition. This initiative brought together participants from Czechia, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Croatia, Poland, and Greece, with a common goal: to explore innovative ways to teach social entrepreneurship through game-based learning.
Exploring Social Entrepreneurship in a Hands-On Way
The project aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of social entrepreneurship and the realities of entrepreneurship education in different countries. Through discussions, interactive sessions, and shared experiences, attendees gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within this field.
A key focus of the training was the integration of non-formal and experiential learning techniques, making complex topics more accessible and engaging. Participants explored how educational games—especially escape box challenges—can be used as effective tools for developing entrepreneurial skills.
Creating and Testing Educational Escape Boxes
One of the most exciting aspects of the course was the hands-on experience of designing educational escape boxes. Participants worked in teams to develop their own prototypes, testing and refining their ideas to ensure they were both fun and educational. These escape boxes were specifically designed to simulate entrepreneurial challenges, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
In addition to designing the games, attendees also developed their facilitation skills, learning how to guide players through game sessions and lead impactful debriefings. Understanding how to reflect on the lessons learned during a game session is just as important as the gameplay itself, ensuring a meaningful learning experience.
Bringing Game-Based Learning to Local Communities
A crucial part of the project was the dissemination of knowledge beyond the training course itself. Participants returned home with a mission to share their newly acquired skills and insights through workshops, events, and activities within their local organizations and communities. By spreading game-based learning approaches, they are helping to make entrepreneurship education more dynamic and accessible.

A New Approach to Teaching Entrepreneurship
The Break Out Box: Social Entrepreneurship Edition training course showcased the power of interactive learning in entrepreneurship education. By combining social entrepreneurship concepts with engaging, game-based methods, participants not only gained valuable skills but also contributed to the evolution of educational practices across Europe.
This Erasmus+ initiative highlighted the potential of educational escape boxes as tools for fostering entrepreneurial mindsets, proving that learning can be both effective and fun. As participants continue implementing these innovative approaches in their own countries, the impact of the project will continue to grow, inspiring even more educators and learners along the way.
